Cheryl E Lawson, MA, NCC, LPC, CCTP - NC Licensed Professional Counselor
About me...

Born and raised in Central Florida, I attended the University of South Florida for my bachelor's degree (in Psychology) before making my way to North Carolina to attend Appalachian State University for graduate school.  I have a Master's degree in Human Development and Psychological Counseling.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (#4196), a Nationally Certified Counselor (#37711), a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (through the International Association for Trauma Professionals) and previously held a NC state license as a school counselor for 10 years before committing full time to private practice.

I have a variety of experiences to draw from including being a middle and high school counselor, a contracted outpatient therapist for a clinical agency, and a sole practioner.

I have additional certifications in Resocial Group™ (working with offenders and substance abuse) and as a low ropes course facilitator, however I am not running either program at this present time.

I strongly believe in the mind-body-spirit connection. I encourage my clients to seek treatments that enable them to feel well-balanced and functioning at their optimum level. While I utilize many different theories of counseling orientation, my base of treatment can be best viewed as Cognitive Behavioral mixed with research-based neuroscience and Mindfulness/Meditative practices and interventions. Thoughts and feelings and behaviors are intertwined and change in one manifests changes in the others. Mindfulness, or the act of truly paying attention to yourself and your surroundings in the immediate moment without judging, is another foundation which guides my treatment and interventions. Both theories are solid, evidenced-based models.

I am married and have 2 boys (19, 13). My family and I live in Burlington, so this is my home community and one in which i hope I can make a positive impact.
